Very brief deconstruction of 'Scream' Opening Scene as a Slasher Horror

Scream(1996) is a horror movie belonging to the sub-genre slasher. It was directed by the respected film director Wes Craven, who also worked on 'Nightmare on Elm Street'.

The opening of screen is one of the most well-known, recognisable and effective film openings made for a horror film due to it's strong use of mise en scene and sound.

The editing used within the opening scene is very fast pace nearer the end as the danger of the girl's situation increases which helps to build suspense and tension. However the rest of the editing is fluent which it needs to be for the narrative to flow properly.
